I am Jack's unchecked violence

This picture is from Foxnews.com

That is a picture of an Iraqi Police Officer! Holy Shit! This fucking guy looks like Rambo.

We all hear these news reports of the violence and terrible things happening in Iraq, but this picture just really drove it home for me. You have this picture in your mind of what a police officer looks like, and that is not it.

It just shows how big of a fucked up mess Iraq has become because of the gross mishandling of it by our current administration. Justified, unjustified, whatever, this is inexcusable incompetence.

  • K. So let's impeach Bush and throw Rumsfeld in jail. Then what? What's the alternative plan?

Is the Democrats plan to just pull out and let civil war decide what happens in Afghanistan and Iraq? What about Iran and North Korea? Whats the Democrats plan for them?

  • Dammit Nick, you beat me to it.

Also it says the guy in the photo is an "officer" and not specifically a police officer. For all you know, it could be special forces.

Instead of one guy with a machine gun like this, maybe we need 10, watching the police station.

Notice the only people saying the war is going bad are, Democrats??

  • He's an office as in Police officer. Officer's in any sort of military don't dress like that and get in the shit.

And no, people who are grounded in reality say the war is going bad. Andrew Sullivan is a Republican and he thinks the war is going bad.

Yes, we need more troops their. Our Commander in Chief hasn't listned to that little chestnut though which his generals have been telling him.

  • Andrew Sullivan IS NOT a Republican. His wikipedia page says he disassociated himself from the party.

    Watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzTQMjkVtcI

It's the other half of America that the Democrats should cater to. It's okay to disapprove of Bush and the job he is doing, in fact, I embrace that. And you'd be a smart political blogger if you chose to be one. I just throw a post up once in a while to ruffle feathers like the game of "tag" I have up now. Who has the time to dive into all of this political BS and write about it on a blog, every waking moment. There are some sad lives on both sides that do this daily! Crazy stuff...

Nick's right though, the real Democrat plan is to install Pelosi with some huge legal battle, enshrining her as the first female President. If that happens, the ACLU will be run from a cabinet position... I shit you not!!!

But what really is the plan for the world, the economy, the people of our country, etc. Our enemies are mocking us around the globe. There isn't one Democrat that'll stand up and say "Hey... I'll do something about it." like a JFK or FDR. Those two are probably rolling in their graves when they see the Democratic party now...

  • I'm not a Republican by any means, but I think the war is going bad. For different reasons than you probably, but it's going bad. No question.

I happen to think that pulling back and letting civil war decide in Iraq just may be the best answer. It's going to happen anyways, no sense in prolonging it.

But think about this... who does Al Qaeda in Iraq side with? Likely the Sunnis, which means they are going to be fighting Muslims. That could go badly for them.

I don't think more troops are the answer though. We're just making things worse by being there IMO.

  • What's the Republican plan? They keep whining about how the Democrats don't have a plan, but it's obvious that they've severely fucked things up with their own "plan", whatever that was. So, what's the deal guys?

    By Blogger E, at 8:15 PM, October 20, 2006

  • The plan is to keep fighting until we win. You know, stay the course? What's your plan? Cut N Run and install Nancy Pelosi as supreme ruler?

  • It saddens me to see ignorance (no offense) fueled by indignant outrage win the day.
I have spent time there in Baghdad, and I have seen the fear, the hatred, and the sadness of the people who live there.
I am an engineer in the military who was over there working on projects for the Iraqi military. And I came away from that experience with a disdain for that culture as a whole. It was very frustrating to me to see people who doing their best to manipulate a poorly conceived system to their benefit at every turn. All the people over there wanted to do was to make a bunch of money really fast and they didn't care how they did it. (They still don't.) The Ministry of Interior, who the police work for are terribly corrupt, to the point of them being the biggest fear of the average citizens. I still find it hard to believe that the media is just now picking up on the fact that the police work more of the militias than the Iraqi Government.
I had several Iraqi engineers working for me over there, and they were hard working, well educated, and decent people. But they were also ruled by a deep seeded terror that I could not understand. We allowed them to stay at the site with us, because they were afraid for themselves and their families if they were seen to be leaving an American compound.
Whenever a new posting of someone's head getting cut off would be put on the internet, they would immediately go and download it and watch this horrifying scene again and again, and they would wail, weep, and it would drive them to hysterics. (I'm not exaggerating here.)

The point to my small rant here, is that the violence has always been there. It's worst sometimes, and better other times. Right now it's not the good. The country is slowly slipping into civil war and I don't know if there is going to be anything we can do to stop it. The Kurds, up north are getting ready to jump ship, and if they do that then the whole region will go into a lock down mode. (Think of the Kurds fighting with Turkey and Iran.)
Remember the ancient Chinese curse, "May you live in interesting times." Well, my friends, consider yourself blessed. You do.

  • Until we win what? Staying isn't a plan, it's simply the opposite of leaving. They're going to stay and do what? What's the plan?

    By Blogger E, at 11:21 AM, October 21, 2006

  • The Republican plan is, and has always been:

Get rid of the Saddam regime, install a new publicly elected government, engage and defeat the terrorists and insurgents, rebuild the countries infrastructure and pray like hell democracy holds and makes people realize religious extremism is not the way to be.

Whether the goals of the plan have been realized depends on who you ask, but the plan itself is pretty simple and well known.

By Blogger Nick, at 10:58 AM, October 23, 2006

  • How could I miss find weapons of mass destruction as part of the original plan??? I must be brainwashed by Fox News LOL

By Blogger Nick, at 12:07 PM, October 23, 2006

  • Those are goals you listed. What is their plan for acheiving those goals?

And Republicans love religious extremism, as long as it's Christian.

    By Blogger E, at 12:08 PM, October 24, 2006

  • What do you want, a listing of what companies are going to do what work? A list of the military missions that are ongoing to fight terrorists? I'm not General Casey :)

By Blogger Nick, at 1:14 PM, October 24, 2006

  • "And Republicans love religious extremism, as long as it's Christian."

Where are you getting this information from? What is your source?

That's a common misconception regarding Republicanism.
