The most compelling argument I've read

My wife found this, and it's a fantastic argument for Obama's health care.

  • I do believe that it is a moral obligation to help those in need. However, I also feel it's a moral obligation to be responsible for your own actions.

This whole thing is called the Health Care Reform, but it's actually about Health Insurance. The best way to reduce health care is to BE healthy. Instead of trying to regulate the insurance premiums, why not focus on getting Americans healthier. Require phys ed all through school k-college and more health classes. Get rid of super sizing and all you can eat buffets. There was an article not too long ago on cnn saying that if Americans cut down on their intake of salt to the actual daily limit, they could save millions on health care because they would have a reduced risk of heart problems.

Maybe I'm wrong in thinking this, but if a person lives a more dangerous lifestyle like smoking, drinking, super-sizing everything, then maybe they should have to pay more. You do for car insurance. If you have tickets or accidents on your record you get charged more. What about life insurance? They are allowed to ask whether you smoke or have hobbies like sky diving. If you're going to take unnecessary risks, then you should have to pay more.

I'm not saying that if you can't afford the hospital bill that you shouldn't be treated. What I'm saying is that everyone needs to have SOME responsibility when it comes to this. That's why it bothers me. People aren't taking care of themselves, physically or financially and now they want the nation to carry them. I always thought that insurance was for accidents and emergencies. Most people think that health insurance is health care. It's just a part of it. The person also has to do their part as well.
